The cold spell this week (January 05-09 2009) has caused ice to form in Lough Atalia in Galway City. The lake is a sea water, tidal pool with a strong tidal curent on the sea side, but is much calmer on the landward side. Ice is unusual here - see http://johnsmyth.ie/blog/?p=642 for more info.
