Carrick-on-Shannon
Read MoreChristmas Day 2009 in Carrick-on-Shannon, the county town of Co. Leitrim. The photograph shows the avenue of trees on either side of the Dublin road (N4) covered in frost and snow taken on the morning - by late afternoon, the white had disappeared as the rain arrived. My recollection of the day is that the temperature rose from around -7C in early morning to just above zero by evening - a huge swing in temperature.

In the background, obscured by the icy fog,is a river boat and also the bridge that spans the river Shannon which marks the boundary between counties Leitrim and Roscommon.
